Pre Exercise Health Screening

Pre Exercise Health Check
Safely Achieve your Fitness Goals

Exercise is great for our health both mentally and physically and nearly all medical professionals recommend some form of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.

However, it’s always a good idea to get a check up with one of our friendly Doctors before starting any new exercise regime to make sure you will not exacerbate any existing problems or create new ones.

Why Have a Pre Exercise Health Screen?

Whilst exercise is nearly always good for us, some forms of physical exertion can carry risks, especially for those of us with pre existing medical conditions, or if the exercise is particularly strenuous.
Having a Pre Exercise Health Screen can help to minimize risks of injury, ensure you exercise in a way that will benefit your body and help you achieve your fitness goals safely.

We recommend a Pre-Exercise Health Check to people who are commencing an exercise programme and:
• Have pre existing medical conditions such as asthma, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease or COPD
• Have chronic or acute musculoskeletal problems such as pain in the back, knees, shoulders etc.
• Have done little or no exercise over the preceding few months or years
• Are intending to undertake a high impact/ intensity regime
• Are intending to attend a residential fitness bootcamp
• Are combining the exercise programme with an extreme diet
• Have a history of exercise intolerance
• Are obese (having a BMI of 30 or above)
• Are over the age of 60

What Does a Pre-Exercise Health Check Involve?

The health check will be performed by one of our friendly team of Doctors who will talk to you about your intended fitness regime, your current health and your fitness goals. The check will include:
• A blood pressure check
• Height and weight measurement
• BMI calculation
• Oxygen saturation test
• Urine test
• Heart rate and rhythm check
• Heart and chest examination
• Spirometry (lung function check)
• Exercise ECG
• Musculoskeletal examination

Following the results of the check, our Doctor will recommend an exercise and lifestyle regime that will best suit your current health. Through this, you can expect to have the best outcome from your exercise and attain achievable goals.
